There have been rumors circulating that Ward 3 New Bedford City Councilor Henry Bousquet was planning to step down.

However, during a Thursday morning phone call with WBSM's Phil Paleologos Bousquet said that is not the case.

"I have no intention of stepping down, I don't know where that rumor even came from," said Bousquet "my assumption is that folks took my inaugural address for some sort of swan song or some sort of foreshadowing, but in truth I love the job I do."

However, Bousquet did continue to express disappoint that he was unable to due to his position as a Culinary Arts teacher at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.

"Does it bother me that I'm not getting paid? Yeah, of course it does," said Bousquet "it's not fair, first of all, second of all, I have to work another job so it sucks away time, not just from my family but from the job I could be doing for the constituents."

Bousquet says he is still working to find a resolution to this issue so he can keep his job at Voc-Tech and draw a salary as a member of the New Bedford City Council.

Now he just needs the State Legislature to act.

"I need the House and Senate of Massachusetts to come together and look at the Home Rule Petition we put forward and pass it basically, I just need them to take it to the floor vote on it and get the Governor to sign it," said Bousquet "we had right up on the little stand there, they just got to kick it."
