Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is marking the final 100 days of his administration by launching a blog intended to smoothen the transition for his successor and the city.

Menino says in a video posted on the blog that went live Saturday that his team is working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible. He says his goal is to ensure the city doesn't miss a step as his 20-year term at City Hall ends on Jan. 6.

Aides say the blog will provide insight on policies, procedures and fun facts with videos, graphs, lists and other information about the city and its work. It is a departure from the practice of outgoing administrations giving their successors a bound book listing departments and their functions.

Menino promises his successor that "We will always have your back.
