The body of a missing boater has been found in Buzzards Bay.

The Coast Guard says it suspended the search for the missing man around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

A nearly 22-hour search was carried out for the man, a search which officials say 400 nautical miles, and included all of Buzzards Bay and the west entrance of Cape Cod Canal.

The search involved personell from Coast Guard Station Cape Cod Canal, Coast Guard Station Woods Hole, Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, the Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke, the Buzzards Bay Task Force, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Army Corps of Engineers, and local good Samaritans.

The missing man's unresponsive body was found in the Cape Cod Canal then returned to shore where it was transferred to Massachusetts Environmental Police and Sandwich Fire Department who pronounced the man dead.

"We maximized our efforts throughout the search, always with the hope of locating the man alive," said Capt. Richard Schultz, commander of Sector Southeastern New England. "When we lose a fellow mariner, it is felt across the entire marine community."

Coast Guard officials say the Massachusetts State Police Investigative Unit is now handling the case.
