About $2.5 million was distributed to New Bedford-based community organizations Tuesday.

The Community Development Block Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development were split between 22 organizations that serve low to moderate income neighborhoods. The funding will be used to supplement those programs and a number of events they host in the city throughout the year.

In addition to the $2.5 million, the City also received $227,000 in Emergency Soulutions Grant funds to prevent and address homelessness within New Bedford.

It's the 42nd year the City has applied for and received Community Development Block Grant funding.
