There were a lot of surprises during the Blizzard of 2015. One was  a number of complaints from local listeners who called in airing their discontent with our radio station's move to guide people to check out our website often. During the storm, we invited listeners to list themselves as willing to shovel people out of their snow bound home, and make a few bucks.

It was our way to help a lot of people get their walkway and driveway cleaned. The match between the home owner and the laborer was simple; go to WBSM.com. Easy enough, right? Not so fast! Some listeners called in and took us to task, saying they did not have a computer or suitable smart phone and felt as though WBSM was discriminating against them and all people without a computer. I noticed they were older listeners who had no desire to get with the times.

So what do you do when the baby boomers refuse to cross over the technical divide? Such is the real challenge that companies face as they try to innovate without extinguishing their loyal base. What's your solution?
