Bill Would Study Gas Tax Alternatives

A bill before the state legislature would study various alternatives to the gas tax. It calls for a pilot program that looks at taxing Massachusetts drivers based upon the number of miles they drive. The measure was introduced by Democratic state Reps Carl Sciortino and Tricia Farley-Bouvier. They say the current gas tax is losing its effectiveness partly because of more fuel-efficient vehicles.
