A local banking leader is the winner of the 2015 "Sister Rose" award for his compassion and work on behalf of the homeless in New Bedford.

Peter Muise of First Citizens Federal Credit Union accepted the award during a ceremony Tuesday at the New Bedford Art Museum. Muise said he was humbled by the award.

Asked about the types of contributions he makes, Muise says" if he can help connect one person to another person, someone who might have resources, someone who might take care of the need, then that's what I do."

Muise says he has great respect for those who work directly with people who are homeless and the compassion they show.

Organizers with the Homeless Service Providers Network say Muise was instrumental in organizing a "Homeless Youth" Forum in New Bedford attended by more than 600 teens.

Carl Alves, President of the HSPN, says Muise is one of the best examples of "corporate engagement" in the city.
