New Bedford Police are investigating a bakery robbery Saturday morning in the south end.

The Goulart Square Bakery was robbed by a short white male who entered the bakery and  demanded money from the clerk. When asked if he was serious, he lifted up his shirt to show what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband although he never removed it.  He escaped running westerly on Rivet Street with an undisclosed amount of money.

The two young female clerks were uninjured and described the suspect as around 5 foot 4 inches tall, very thin and balding with a long brown beard. He was last seen wearing a dark grey shirt, khaki shorts and possibly white sneakers.

Anyone with information can call Detective Michael Carrier at 508-991-6300 ext 114.
