Back To School Today

Wow, summer flew by!  I know the calendar says summer ends September 21st but for many kids in the area it's back to school day today!  It seems earlier and earlier every year!  As a kid I could never imagine going back to school before Labor Day.  I remember being a kid at our summer cottage and you knew summer was over and school was about to begin as you packed up the car while the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon was on, you drove home had a couple of days off and then went to school the Wednesday after Labor Day.  I don't have a problem with the kids starting school so early, I think they should go all year long!  (Not a popular with many I know) After all education is very important, I know some kids in other parts of the country go back to school in the middle of August, but they do get out in May.  I think the kids like to go back to school for a couple of reasons, first is to see all of the kids they haven't seen all summer, second to show off their new clothes!  Parents shell out hundreds of dollars for new clothes and those sneekers!  I can't believe the prices of some of those shoes, I saw a pair for over $300 dollars!  I just can't see spending that much on a pair of back to school shoes I argued with my son over a pair of $80 dollar shoes!  So, the kids are back to school with the new clothes and shoes meeting up with their pals having a good time, then reality sets in, they are in school and have to do work, and we mom's and dad's will have to hear about how much of a pain it is going to school!  I seem to remember doing the same thing when I was a kid, seems the more things change the more they stay the same.
