Everyone at the Ocean Explorium in New Bedford is excited over the new birth of a White Spotted Bamboo Shark, after spending the last 100 days in its egg. More hatchings are expected in the days ahead, too!

The baby shark measures about six inches long and is showing off its faint display of contrasting color which darkens as the shark grows. Healthy and already eating, the White Spotted Bamboo Shark is one of three species exhibited in the Ray and Shark Touch Tank.

Other fascinating species exhibited include the Atlantic Stingray and Cownose Ray, plus a Scallop Touch Tank and Rocky Shore Touch Tank that allows children and visitors to interact with sea life! The Ocean Explorium is located at 174 Union St. in Historic Downtown New Bedford and is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is handicap accessible through the building's rear entrance.
