The Mayor of a small city in the Azores got the chance on Thursday to tour one of the largest  vocational schools in Massachusetts.  Carlos Mendonca is Mayor of the City of Nordeste on the island of San Miguel.  He was invited to the school by former Dartmouth Selectboard member Michael Watson, who teaches at Voc-Tech.

Mayor Mendonca is looking for ideas to improve vocational education in his city.  "To have the knowledge and experience of what they have here, and bring it to a small town like Nordeste," said Mendonca, "I think it would be great to open minds and see all the different opportunities we can have."

Voc-Tech Superintendent Linda Enos suggested the Mayor meet with business people in and around his city to determine what skills they are looking for from the local workforce and go from there.

Last year, Mendonca signed an agreement with Dartmouth officials to create cultural and educational ties between the two communities.
