Maura Healey has been sworn in as the state's 55th attorney general.

Healey took her oath of Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall. Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph Gants administered the oath.

The 43-year-old Democrat is the first openly gay candidate elected to the office. She succeeds former Attorney General Martha Coakley.

In a speech following the swearing-in, Healey promised a ``first-of-its-kind division'' focused on protecting young people.

She's also pledged to make the state's opiate and prescription drug abuse problem a priority.

Other statewide officials sworn in Wednesday include Deborah Goldberg, elected state treasurer to replace fellow Democrat Steve Grossman.

For the first time in Massachusetts history, the majority of the state's six constitutional offices are now held by women.
