Attleboro police have arrested a 15-year-old boy they say forced his way into a 62-year-old neighbor's home and stabbed her before trying to drown her.

According to police, the boy drove the woman to a nearby lake after stabbing her, and tried to drown the woman.

After that attempt to kill her also failed, the teen tried asphyxiating the woman by plugging the car's tailpipe.

Police say the victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with a stab wound to her neck and other injuries not considered life threatening.

The boy is charged with attempted murder, home invasion and kidnapping.

No names were released.

Police say the boy and woman both live on Cumberland Avenue and knew each other but were still trying to determine a motive.

Investigators say they think the attack started late Wednesday night. They say the boy stabbed the woman then took her from her home against her will to a place where he tried to drown her. (Associated Press)
