CNN is reporting that 57 people were injured in an early morning ferry crash in New York city. Two of the people are considered to be critically injured.

The ferry, which provides transportation between New Jersey and Wall Street came to a jolting stop, according to passengers on board. The ferry usually transports up to 400 people at a time.

One witness says that they saw a lot of bloody bandaged heads, and people on stretchers after the incident. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to investigate.

Update 1:00pm - Two people are in critical condition following a New York City ferry accident. This passenger says the ferry was trying to make a quick stop at the dock.

Nearly 60 people were hurt. The Seastreak from New Jersey had what's described as a hard landing just before 9 a.m. Eastern time. Coast Guard spokesman Charles Rowe says the captain of the ferry went through a number of tests.

The boat was damaged by the impact. Many of the injuries are minor.
