Judge Elspeth "Ellie" Cypher of Assonet was unanimously confirmed to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts by the Governor's Council on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old former Bristol County prosecutor will replace Justice Margot Botsford, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 this month.

Cypher will be the first justice on the state's highest court from Bristol County in more than a century. She is a graduated of Emerson College, and got her law degree from Suffolk University School of Law.

Cypher lives in Assonet with her wife, Sharon Levesque, and their son.
