A New Bedford man is arrested after allegedly firing a gun in a north end neighborhood.

New Bedford Police say officers were called to 149 Tinkham Street shortly after midnight Sunday morning for a report of two shots fired from the backyard of the home. When police arrived at the scene, they saw two men in the backyard who immediately fled when they saw the police. Officers were able to contain the residence and soon found the man that supposedly fired the gun.

Police arrested 30-year-old Geraldo Rivera of New Bedford. Rivera is charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm within 500ft of a dwelling, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a firearm, disturbing the peace while armed, and warrant arrest.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
