The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Bedford Police Station Headquarters on Rockdale Avenue.

This event addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, most often from the home medicine cabinet!

The Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. The Take Back Day provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

This is a great opportunity for those who missed previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to dispose of those medications easily and safely.
