New Bedford City workers have been hard at work filling the potholes caused by a record-setting winter, and they'll likely be doing that for much of this year.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says since the snow has stopped, City crews have filled nearly 7,000 potholes in City streets. "Our roads are better than they are in most other cities, but they could be better still. And our guys in the Department of Public Infrastructure have been hard at it, and I expect, frankly, they're going to be hard at it right through the beginning of next winter because there are that many (potholes) out there," Mitchell says.

The Mayor adds New Bedford received about $600,000 that was appropriated by Governor Charlie Baker to fix roads that were damaged by the winter weather.
