(Associated Press) - Massachusetts public health officials say a Suffolk County woman is the ninth person to contract West Nile virus in the state this year.

The Department of Public Health said Friday the unidentified patient is in her 30s and likely contracted the virus locally. She did not require hospitalization.

Officials say the infection was confirmed by testing at the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory.

Public health officials say risk is not higher because of the most recent case. West Nile Virus risk level is classified as ``high'' for Boston, Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop.

Catherine Brown, state public health veterinarian, says the risk for West Nile virus continues until a hard frost hits every part of Massachusetts.

Six human cases of West Nile virus infection were identified last year in the state.
