If you're looking for fireworks this Independence Day, you've found them. UMASS Dartmouth is once again hosting the beloved "Freedom Festival" from Bristol County Savings Bank. This family-oriented event is free, open to the public, and features great music from some the the local musicians. Food, beverages and novelty products will be sold at concession stands and vendors on the main campus quadrangle. Of course there will be fireworks which are set to begin at 9:15 on Thursday, July 3. This year will be special in particular because it coincides with the 350th anniversary of the Town of Dartmouth, as well as the 50th anniversary of the UMASS Dartmouth campus groundbreaking. Extra security measures will be taken, so please limit what you bring to the event. Guests will be allowed on the premises anytime after 3 pm. You wil not be allowed to park on campus once all the space are filled, and officers will deny parking access after 9 pm. Parking will also be banned along Old Westport Road throughout the evening. I personally recommend getting there before 6:30 to ensure both a parking spot and a decent viewing spot for the fireworks. This is a wonderful tradition for the town, and a great way for the community to get together. I'll see you there!
