Should animals have the same rights as people? A Gallup poll out May 19th found that 32 percent of Americans believe animals should have, quote, "the same rights as people to be free from harm and exploitation." Sixty-two percent, however, said that animals should have some protection, but that it's still okay to use them for the benefit of humans. The Week noted that a Gallup poll from three years ago found that just five percent of Americans are vegetarians, and wondered about the 27 percentage point difference from this new poll, writing, "Either a bunch of people aren't sure what they believe, or a bunch of people think human rights do not include a protection against being eaten."

Do you believe animals should have the same rights as people "to be free from harm and exploitation?
