One of the most brutal images in the world of sports in 2013 came at the tail end of the year.

Anderson Silva broke his leg during a bout to claim the UFC middleweight title against Chris Weidman on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Silva’s injury occurred when he delivered a leg kick. Silva underwent surgery on the leg that doctors called a success.

It’s unclear if the 38-year-old Silva, who once won a UFC record 16 consecutive bouts, will fight again.

Silva’s injury is tough to watch, no doubt. It’s reminiscent of the broken leg Louisville’s Kevin Ware suffered in an NCAA Tournament game last spring. A clip of that is below, but, if you haven’t seen it, be warned. It’s tough to stomach. The good news? Ware worked his way back and returned to game action this season.

If that’s not enough, you can also check out some other clips of awful leg injuries suffered during games, but we advise you not to eat before watching.
