Amazon will be holding a series of information sessions this week regarding job openings at their soon to be opened distribution center in Fall River.

Ken Fiola, Executive Vice President of the Fall River Office of Economic Development, tells WBSM News that while it is unusual for a company to hold this type of event, Amazon is planning to hire roughly 500 workers in a short period of time and the company felt this type of information session would help things move along more smoothly.

"They felt that it's good to move forward with this type of briefing excercise so that people can become, one aware of the postions and, two learn more about the positions in terms of what, actually, Amazon is looking for," said Fiola.

Fiola says the sessions will also provide an opportunity for prospective employees to learn about the company before the application process gets underway.

"I would highly recommend that they come to these briefing sessions to learn more about the company as well as its philosophy, its pay, its benefit package, and what the work schedule would look like," said Fiola "so I think that it's important that people be briefed as to what their expectations would be from Amazon and that way, after they attend these briefings, they would be in a better position to apply for those jobs."

The first sessions take place at Durfee High School at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday. Two more sessions take place on Thursday at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School at 10 a.m., and at the Bristol Community College Auditorium at 3 p.m.

Recruiting is expected to ramp up later in July and early August.

The positions have not yet been posted on Amazon's website.
