Once Amazon decided to move ahead with construction of a one-million square foot distribution center in Fall River, crews wasted little time getting on the site and beginning work.

Crews were cutting trees and clearing the site on Monday. Mayor Sam Sutter visited the site on Monday, and reflected on how it all came about.

"It came together at the end very quickly and it certainly was an education for me on how difficult it is to get a project like this started, but here we are and its very exciting for the region and the city of Fall River," said Sutter.

The project will create about a thousand full-time jobs, plus 200 part-time positions.

Amazon says they're hoping to have the new warehouse up and running in about a year.
