The ties between New Bedford and Cape Verdean whaling run deep, and now the Whaling Museum hopes to continue to unearth and preserve even more history.

Whaling Museum and City officials signed a Framework of Cooperation with representatives of Cape Verde in front of the Charles W. Morgan Monday evening. The Framework lays the groundwork for collaborative efforts to exhibit the strong link between New Bedford and Cape Verdean whalers.

After Mayor Jon Mitchell pondered what the city would do next year to top the Morgan's visit, Gene Monteiro, co-chair of the Cape Verdean Advisory Committee had this to say.

The agreement will promote shared exhibits, research, and materials between the New Bedford Whaling Museum and Cape Verde.
