A long-time City Councilor has decided not to run for re-election after 24 years in the chambers.

Councilor-at-Large David Alves released a statement today, confirming he would not seek a 13th term as a City Councilor. Alves says it's time for him to "start a new chapter" in his life, and looks forward to being able to spend more time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Alves was one of the driving forces in bringing a casino developer to the city, and maintaining a working relationship with KG Urban Enterprises for about eight years before the company opted not to build a casino on the waterfront.

Alves noted in his release he realizes the City may face "some difficult times ahead financially, but feels confident the current City Council is more than capable to handle anything that comes along."
