New Bedford School Department spokesman Jonathan Carvalho says the school administration has heard the concerns of parents "loud and clear" about student behavior at Keith Middle School and is taking action.

In a memo sent out late Friday, Carvalho said Keith Principal Paula Bailey met throughout the day with small groups of teachers, getting feedback on what they felt was working well at Keith, and what they felt needed improvement.

According to the statement, staff members offered at least ten suggestions on improving conditions, including increasing the consequences for students who get out of line, developing parent partnerships to prevent minor infractions from escalating, and doing a better job of communicating consequences for bad behavior.

The statement said the small group meetings would continue on Monday. It also stated Its the shared goal of every Keith educator to ensure that the school ensures the safety and security of all students.
