The Russell Memorial Library on Main Street in Acushnet is closing on Saturday.

The majestic-looking building has served as the town's library for 85 years. The building however is in disrepair and is not accessible for the disabled.

Library Director Dina Brasseur tells WBSM News, for many in Acushnet, the closing is a nostalgic event.

"We've had plenty of people stopping by over the past week or so taking photos of their kids, figuring this is the last time they'll visit this space, so that's been nice to see," said Brasseur.

The library will close at 3pm on Saturday.

Brasseur says a new library will be opened on December 21st in the refurbished Howard School building at 232 Middle Road.

She says all the services will be on one floor. It will also include more room for children's programs and a meeting room that can accomodate up to 45 people.
