A new $6 million library and community center project for Acushnet has been given initial approved by Town Meeting.  The vote Monday night was overwhelming, 190 to 23.  Acushnet Library Trustee Kristen Leotti was thrilled by the vote.  She says the current Russell Memorial Library, is too small, has no quiet areas for study, and is not handicapped accessible.

The project still requires a majority vote at the April 1st town election.
