Acushnet House Fire Under Investigation

Acushnet firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire late last night at 50 Columbe Street.

When they arrived at the 2 story structure, they found heavy fire emanating from a second floor bedroom where they believe it started. An unidentified 52 year old woman was rescued from a second floor bathroom  by a 19 year old volunteer firefighter who was first on the scene. Acushnet Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher had high praise for his men.

The woman suffered severe burns to her lower extremities as well as smoke inhalation was med flighted to Rhode Island Hospital. The fire remains under investigation.
