An off duty New Bedford Police Sergeant detained a New Hampshire woman who is now charged with breaking in to an Acushnet home on Saturday.

Acushnet police say at 12:23 p.m. they received a call from Sergeant Jason Gomes who said he detained a woman who had just broken into a Mattapoisett Road home.

Gomes says he received a call from a family friend who said she was on the second floor when they heard someone walking around on the first floor.

Gomes went to home and found the side door was slightly open.

He then entered the home and found a woman, identified as 23-year-old Jessica Soucy, at the top of the stairs.

After engaging in conservation with Soucy he determined she didn't belong in the home and lead her outside where she was then turned over to Acushnet police.

In addition to addresses in New Hampshire police say Soucy had addresses in Lawrence and Freetown and was in possession of jewelry taken from the home.

Soucy will be arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Monday on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime, larceny over $250, and placing a person in fear.

The 16-year-old female resident that was home at the time didn't come in contact with Soucy and wasn't harmed.
