Legendary actor Mickey Rooney has died. Multiple sources confirm that the 93-year-old passed away Sunday. TMZ notes that Rooney was ill for some time, and says his death was attributed to natural causes.

Rooney's prolific career as a performer started soon after he was born in Brooklyn as a toddler in his parents' stage act. He made his screen debut at the age of six, and signed to MGM when he was 14. With the role of an all-American boy next door named Andy Hardy and a series of musicals with Judy Garland,

Rooney became one of the studio's biggest box office attractions in the '30s and '40s. During his eight decades in the business, he earned multiple Academy Award and Emmy nominations, and was awarded a pair of special Oscars including the Juvenile Award in 1939.
