Achievement Is Not Competition

A North Carolina school board has decided to stop naming valedictorians and salutatorians, the students with the highest and second-highest grade point averages in each year's graduating class, because they said it was leading to "unhealthy" competition among students! Charlotte's News & Observer reported that the Wake County school board unanimously gave approval for the policy change. What do you think of the school board getting rid of naming a valedictorian and salutatorian because it was leading to "unhealthy" competition? I was always under the impression to go the extra mile because it's hardly crowded. Meaning hard work has its rewards in life. Is that unhealthy? I have some simple advice; look in the mirror - that's your competition! In the words of the great thinker, Dr. Seuss, "You're off to great places ... Today is your day ... Your mountain is waiting, so get on your Way."
