Absentee ballots are available for New Bedford residents who are unable to go to the polls for the June 23 Special Referendum Election to vote on a waterfront casino.

The Board of Election Commissioners says absentee ballots can be cast at the Elections Office in City Hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Ballots can also be cast Saturday June 20 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Absentee ballots can be cast until noon on June 22, the day before the election.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 23.

Voters in this election will determine if the City of New Bedford will permit the operation of a gaming establishment licensed by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

The proposed casino would be located on approximately 43 acres off of MacArthur Drive at the site of the former Cannon Street power station.
