A caller to the Phil Paleologos Show caused a bit of a stir Wednesday morning after they reported seeing a stranded whale in the waters off Fort Rodman.

However, after crews searched the area it was discovered that the stranded whale was, in fact, a rock.

New Bedford's Director of Animal Control, Emanuel Maciel,  says this isn't the first time they've received this type of call.

"We had the same issue a couple of years ago," says Maciel "because of where the rock is it's not close to the shore it's maybe 150 feet away. If you come out here at low tide you can see the rock...with the way the water's hitting it looks like a little spout with a white cap coming up and i can see where someone would think that."

Maciel later suggested naming the rock Whale Rock.
