Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski has agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Pierzynski, 37, hit .272 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI in 134 games last season for the Rangers.

This could signal the end for Jarrod Saltalamacchia as the red Sox catcher. Salty was looking for three years, the Sox only offered a two-year deal.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports recently reported the Marlins have made an offer to Saltalamacchia.
