When was the last time you did something for the first time? On Black Friday's Phil Paleologos Morning Show, one of America's clearest thinkers, John LeBoutillier, a great friend, a FOX Political Insider and nationally recognized analyst, didn't let on that he was donating platelets while conversing with me on-air. Film at 11 about that, but this story gives us a chance to learn something important about giving blood. Just one platelet donation can provide as many as 15 to 18 whole blood donations! This helps keep a person with cancer or a weakened immune system from being exposed to many donors.

It's good to know that platelets are a component of blood whose function is to stop bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries. During the donation, that takes longer than giving whole blood, your blood is painlessly drawn from the arm through sterile tubing into a centrifuge. The color of platelets is much different than the deep tones of blood donations.

I've always heard that politics is a blood sport of sorts, but John's radio segment took things to another level!

John LeBoutillier appears every Friday morning at 9:10 on 1420 - WBSM. On the FOX News Channel, catch The Political Insiders every Sunday evening at 7:30 pm.
