2014 Safest Cars

Seven cars and SUV's now rank as the safest vehicles on the road.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety added the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan to its list of safe cars last week.

Other cars with the Top Safety Plus Pick rating include the 2014 Chevy Malibu, Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI, and the 2015 Hyundai Genesis.

To make the list, a car has to perform well on crash tests and offer accident prevention technology.
