$2.5 Million Awarded to Local New Bedford Organizations

Over thirty community based organizations and city departments were awarded nearly $2.5 million Tuesday.

Mayor Jon Mitchell was on hand to present the annual Community Development Block Grants to the grateful recipients, who use the funds to keep their programs running while making a difference in New Bedford. Cindy Ricard of Art Therapy, Inspirational Art for Seniors Inc., received a $7,000 check in CDBG money. Cindy says the funds will go a long way towards improving the golden years for many New Bedford residents.

In addition to the $2.5 million, another million dollars in grants will provide resources to housing developers to create low and mixed income developments, and address the city's homelessness problem.
