WESTPORT (WBSM) — A barn fire in Westport Tuesday morning left a property severely damaged and killed several animals.

Firefighters responded to Sodom Road Tuesday morning for reports of a barn fire that happened around 7 a.m.

A Westport highway surveyor initially observed the fire and called 911 before attempting to help the homeowners remove the livestock from the barn.

The Westport Fire Department said that the fire quickly spread throughout the loft area of the structure, which was surrounded by a home.

Mutual aid tankers and engines from Little Compton, Tiverton and Dartmouth Fire District 3 were called to also assist with containing the flames.

The fire department reported no injuries, but several animals died in the fire that were unable to be rescued.
